It’s been over a year since the Covid-19 outbreak. Why don’t we do a recap of the new normal health habits that we picked up along the way?
Boosting our Health
In our relentless battle against this pandemic, we have learned to live among the enemy. With that, we discovered that one of our roles in this fight is to strengthen our barriers. In the form of boosting our immune system, no less. Accepting that, we have individually gained a few tricks to boost our immunity against the dreaded virus. But, what again are the universal tips that can generally improve our health?
A Balanced Diet
According to the World Health Association, no single food will prevent you from catching Covid-19. However, for our immune system to run at its best, we must follow a healthy and balanced diet. Accordingly, a healthy diet includes various foods, including grains, legumes, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and animal source foods. This ensures our immune system is supported by the right amount of nutrients it needs.
Set the Body Clock
We’ve heard it many times before, sleep is healing. And a sleep-deprived immune system is bound to lose at the infectious battlefield. Our immune system can run on an even cycle when we keep a regular bedtime and wake-up routine. It is recommended for optimal health, that adults get six to eight hours of sleep at night. If you’re having trouble sleeping, it might be best to consult your doctor first.
Maintain the Body’s Rhythm
Did you know that along with an imbalanced diet, that the lack of physical activity is the leading global risk to our health? Nowadays, exercising is not only for the strong and the athletic. In these tough times, a few breathing exercises can already go a long way – and some of us have been taught that since preschool. Stretching, being in motion, while maintaining a rhythm in our breath will always be vital to our physical health. If you’re reading this and you’ve been sitting in place for hourse – stand up and move!
Stress is also the Enemy
Our health doesn’t end with the body alone. While we try to boost our immunity by eating well and working out, let’s not forget to check on what’s inside. Mental and emotional health checks are mandatory to keep a healthy and balanced state. Remember, stress can manifest and can actually make you sick, specially during these trying times.
Beyond the Habits
Last but definitely not least, there are the usuals like washing our hands, diligently wearing our masks, and making sure our general hygiene is spot on. All these tasks-turned-habits remain as our weapons for winning the fight. Now that the vaccines are coming in, we are continuously coming closer to achieving that. This isn’t the time to relax.
