Ironman 2023: Take The Biggest Challenge

Ironman 2023 is already shaping up to be a full packed event! How so? This is because Century Tuna is already getting ready for a bigger, grander edition next year. There are already planned activities as early as September.

A large, talented international field is anticipated to arrive in what has long been regarded as the nation’s triathlon heartland on June 11. This is to compete for the overall championship and other age-group accolades in both the half- and full-IRONMAN races.

Back in Business

Greg Banzon, Executive Vice President and COO of Century Pacific, said “With everything getting back to normal, so is this ever-popular endurance sport. Century Tuna is more than honored to be at the forefront when it resumes in full gear next year.” He is the maker of the country’s leading canned tuna brand which is now a global product in 57 countries.

The corporate executive is an enthusiastic triathlete who takes pride in being one of the sport’s founders. He is driven to impose discipline in terms of training and dieting. Moreover, he also draws a parallel between what the brand should stand for and what the sport should demand of a triathlete.

Century Tuna made its debut on the local triathlon scene in 2012 with the 5150 triathlons and an Olympic-distance event. Since then, the company has hosted a number of 70.3 races. In 2018, also in Subic, it hosted the nation’s first complete IRONMAN.

Petr Lukosz of the Czech Republic won the grueling competition. It was held in March of this year and contested over different events taking first place overall. The games were sponsored by the IRONMAN Group/Sunrise Events, Inc.

Making a Splash Abroad

The recent Kona IRONMAN World Championships in Hawaii produced a record number of Filipino qualifiers. The 39-triathlete Philippine delegation nearly tripled the 14-athlete contingent which took part in the 2018 edition of the annual event.

Frey Uytengsu, founder and The IRONMAN Philippines ambassador said, “All things considered, next year’s edition will surely be bigger and unpredictable with most bidders. It includes the foreign aces and the country’s leading and rising endurance athletes, raring to showcase their wares in new normal setup and on a world-class course.”

Additionally, 75 slots will be up for grabs in the Century Tuna IRONMAN 2023 Philippines.
