Go Bags: How to Pack Them for Any Disaster

Our country is a very beautiful paradise that is a no-brainer. But in this paradise lies the tough challenge of surviving natural disasters. How do you ask? Well, we are pretty much situated in the typhoon belt and to the Pacific Ring of Fire which spells trouble because of frequent volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. Is it tough getting through in this kind of environment? If you’re prepared and knowledgeable then it is manageable living here and it is where go bags come in handy.

A Super Go Bag

The most ideal bag you can use as your go bag is a good old knapsack. Well, as much as possible you’ll need to be hands-free during a disaster so that you can outrun flowing lava or raging water, let’s not even remove the possibility of zombies at this point. Additionally, you want a knapsack that is both durable and capable of housing some items we’ll going to mention later in this article. Another plus for go bags with lots of pockets and doesn’t succumb easily to the elements, especially to water. Sure, we have typhoon-resilient trees which is our first defense against natural disasters, especially typhoons, but that doesn’t mean it can keep us dry for a long time.

Make sure to have one for every family member you have. Make sure to pack two or three week worth of supplies for good measure.

Medical Kit or First Aid Kit

No matter what kind of disaster you might be preparing for, a medical kit or a first aid kit should always be in your go bag. It should be one of your top priorities to have in your bag because any type of disaster will always cause cuts, or any type of wounds and wounds can cause infections, and a med kit would surely be a great help for first aid. In department stores, you can buy first-aid kits that are already assembled. Iodine, Band-Aids, needle and thread, scissors, gauze, tweezers, wipes, and basic medications should all be present.

Lighting Tools

Another must-have in a go bag is lighting tools. Always assume the worst for disasters and you don’t even need to bet that there will be power outages during said disasters. It’s always good to have a light source especially when a disaster strikes in the middle of the night, we’ll never know. You know the old saying, there’s always hope in the light. Glow sticks, flares, flashlights, waterproof matchsticks, and candlelights should be in your go bags.

Get Easy-to-Open Canned Foods and Biscuits

Hunger can literally kill you so it’s always good practice to buy easy-to-open canned foods. Get the ones with the pull tabs so that you won’t need to use a knife anymore for convenience. If you want to reduce the weight of your go bag, then you might want to buy the sachet ones instead of the canned ones. For variety, that will depend on you. Biscuits are also another good food during disasters because they are easy to eat and don’t take much of an effort to munch down.

Clean Water is Salvation

We want to stress this enough; clean water is a must-have during disasters. You don’t want to drink contaminated water after surviving a disaster just to be taken out by diarrhea. PREPARE BOTTLED WATERS AND FILTRATION DEVICES if you have the funds.

Whistles

Phones are useless when they ran out of battery so what can you use to give the rescuers your location? That’s right, the good old ever useful whistle! Imagine if f you’re trapped somewhere and not visible, a few blows might help attract the attention of somebody. The best part is that it won’t take up much room in your pack.

These are just the must-have stuff you need to pack in your go bag, if you feel like you need other survival items not mentioned above then feel free to get them. The important thing is survival after all!
