Fostering inclusion among children with or wihout disabilities through play

THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD: Filipinos are stirring positivity overseas through simple yet fun activities for children with disabilities.

“Magdula Ta: Inclusive Games for Children with or without Disabilities” was held last March 10, 2018 at the Philippine Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

The event aimed to foster inclusion and understanding for children with or without disabilities through games and sports. It was also designed to help bridge the gap between the community and the children with disabilities.

The project was initiated by Mr. Rolando Villamero,Jr., co-founder and Vice President of Global Observatory for Inclusion (GLOBI), an expert on the Mission on Inclusive Education of UNICEF Kenya – Special Olympics Kenya, and a board member of the Filipino Community in Kenya.

With the Philippine Embassy in full support of this project for the disabled children, Ambassador to Kenya Uriel Norman R. Garibay said, “the Embassy promotes inclusion. Regardless who you are, where you came from, you have the right to be included in the society.”

He also added that “each one of us has the responsibility to create an inclusive environment where people with physical and intellectual disability thrive alongside their peers without disabilities.”

Around 35 children participated in the event, with some children of the Filipino Community members joining the program as well. Through this project, children with disabilities were given an opportunity to experience new activities in a fun and relaxed environment.
