2019 SEA Games: Against All Odds

Hosting the 2019 SEA Games was a resounding success for the Philippines.

From what critics tried to paint as a stormy start, going as far as spreading fake news, how the events turned out proved doubters wrong. With success after success, and praises heaped by guests, it was no doubt the country did a fantastic job hosting.

A team effort

Before anything else, we would like to congratulate the 2019 SEA Games organizers, officials, volunteers, and everyone on the sidelines. Let’s of course include the chefs, cleaners, security, etc. They made all of this possible. We would not even make it a quarter of the way without them. And in the true spirit of our battle cry #WeWinAsOne, we want to congratulate all the Filipinos who watched the games and supported the event in any way. We were all gracious hosts to our wonderful guests!

Winning as one

To our 2019 SEA Games athletes, how can we forget about you? A massive THANK YOU and congratulations for your efforts. Your excellence was reflected in the hardware you earned. Our country garnered the overall championship, bagging 149 golds, 117 silvers, and 121 bronze medals.

We know that your sacrifices did not just span a few days or weeks of competition. You worked so hard for this, and you deserve everything. You make us proud to be Filipino.

Investing in sports tourism

What’s next? The success doesn’t stop at the 2019 SEA Games. We have refurbished sports venues, and a world-class sports complex in New Clark City. The latter will become a melting pot for athletes from all over the country. We’ll train them there, we’ll get more funding for all kinds of sports, we’ll do even better next time.

Even foreign athletes and teams have started inquiring about making use of our facilities. Finally, the Philippines is known for something again, something we’re so passionate about: sports! There is certainly no #BetterPhilippines without the gift of SPORTS. That’s it for the 2019 SEA Games, now on to bigger things!

Mabuhay ang atletang Pilipino! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
