Over 22K jobs available at Subic fair

A one-day jobs caravan offering more than 22,000 employment opportunities will be held at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) in Zambales on February 9.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the event was open to jobseekers who are skilled in construction and other related fields and are looking for employment in Central Luzon and nearby areas.

Employment for skilled workers

The jobs caravan, which is part of the government’s “Build Build Build” program, will have companies in need of skilled workers — mostly carpenters, steel men, welders, electricians, pipe fitters, scaffolders, painters, masons, and laborers.

Bello advised interested applicants that they can view the job vacancies at build.gov.ph. A pre-registration of all other applicants will also be held at the SBMA Gym on February 4, 6, and 7 from 8am to 2pm.

The jobs fair was initially intended for workers of debt-ridden South Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries who already lost their jobs and those who are about to be laid off. According to DOLE, around 3,000 Hanjin workers were profiled to be qualified for various openings at the jobs caravan.

“We are thankful to the companies for making available opportunities not only for skilled workers in Central Luzon but also in surrounding provinces. These workers are mostly needed as the we push the ‘Build Build Build’ infrastructure program of the Duterte government,” Bello said.
