City of Smiles Among Top 100 Cities for Global Outsourcing
Bacolod City took the 89th spot in the 2018 Tholons Services Globalization Index (TSGI) of the top 100 cities for global outsourcing services.
According to an official of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology (BNEFIT), the city placed 97th in the previous year, that’s why leaping to a higher ranking this year is a big feat for a mid-sized city like Bacolod.
Batapa-Sigue also cited the city’s “grit and determination to continuously challenge and redesign our own strategies to adapt to the requirements of global digital services.”
Keeping up with digital transformation
Bacolod has been on the list for some years now. However, according to Batapa-Sigue, the city struggled to remain on the list due to the new criteria including digital and innovation.
In 2017, TSGI’s ranking gave a 20-percent weightage for digital transformation. Other factors that were more traditional — such as cost, infrastructure, talent, skill and quality, business catalyst, and risk and quality of life — were given an 80-percent weightage.
This year, the ranking puts a 75-percent weightage on traditional factors and 25-percent on digital innovation.
Bacolod proved its worth by doubling in the digital criterion scoring from 4 last year to 8.5 this year.
