The Iglesia Ni Cristo: A Beacon of Hope During the Pandemic

Surviving the pandemic was not easy but thanks to the efforts of the INC, it became manageable.

The Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) or the Church of Christ has always extended a helping hand in times of crisis. This health emergency has been no exception.

Despite the challenges the Covid-19 pandemic provided, INC was dedicated to continuing its humanitarian activities. Their assistance was critical, as those with minimal resources rely on it to survive. Here are three ways the Iglesia extended help during this pandemic:

INC Launched “My Countrymen, My Brethren”

The Iglesia Ni Cristo has always played an important role in serving and supporting the local community. The “Kabayan Ko, Kapatid Ko” or “My Countrymen, My Brethren” is one such program. The program’s goal is to provide spiritual and mental support to individuals in need. The church has been able to connect with people locally as well as in other nations thanks to this initiative.

Earlier this year, the Iglesia celebrated its 107th anniversary. Herein, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo commended them for their contributions to the nation’s spiritual health as well as their “selfless acts of kindness.”

“It is undeniable that the prosperity of the Iglesia is inseparable from the modern history of the Philippines. Over the course of more than a century, the Iglesia ni Cristo has served as a spiritual tuning fork for the faithful and has corralled those who have been led astray. It has been a moral compass for the Filipino people leading us to the path of the true north towards our Creator,” he said.

Panelo also praised the INC for assisting the country in overcoming the pandemic and advised its members to keep their faith strong.

“Most importantly, during this time of uncertainty and anxiety as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic, the Iglesia ni Cristo has served as a shining beacon of hope for the Filipino. With fidelity to God as its core principle, they have served as a firm anchor for the faithful and has helped our nation persevere.”

Iglesia Ni Cristo Distributed Goodie Bags Locally

The pandemic has altered the way we work and carry out our volunteer efforts. Many people lost their jobs and income as a result of this deadly virus. Thankfully, even in the darkest of times, the Iglesia ni Cristo is always there to help. It stood forward to help those in need by distributing goodie packs to both LGUs and far-flung barrios.

Rice, canned food, and even coffee were among the goods in those bags. They aim to make sure that no one goes without these essentials, even in difficult times. No one should go hungry. Brethren or not, all were given goodie bags to cope with the unending lockdowns. This is how the Iglesia ni Cristo show that they truly care about the people of this nation.

Iglesia’s Aid to Humanity Program

The opportunity to help out locally is extremely beneficial, but locals are not the only ones that require assistance. As an organization, you do all possible to assist your fellow man.

Through a program called Aid to Humanity, Iglesia Ni Cristo has expanded the help they regularly provide to 300,000 people in over 220 locations across North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Even at the height of the pandemic, this type of initiative allowed them to offer food, housing, and other requirements to a large number of individuals across several countries.

Amidst the pandemic, INC has proven itself capable of providing substantial support to those in need and. Giving essential items in combination with spiritual assistance has gone a long way towards bringing consolation to the less fortunate and maintaining our humanity through difficult times.
