Signed into law in 2018, The Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) is the Philippine government’s central identification platform for all citizens and resident aliens.

The National ID contains a 12-digit number (CRN) for each individual. Moreover, it also includes the following personal information: full name, gender, date of birth, home address, blood type, and civil status.

PhilSys consolidates all government-issued ID systems into one, in hopes of improving government services by cutting down costs, providing convenience of use, and streamlining transactions.

Moreover, PhilSys was made to become a means of simplifying public and private transactions, and a foundational identification system that provides:

• ease of business;
• reduced corruption;
• seamless service delivery;

Via a designated Common Reference Number (CRN), a Filipino can present their National ID in place of the following government-issued identification numbers:

• SSS
• Pag-IBIG
• PhilHealth
• Passport number
• Voter’s registration
• Driver’s license number
• Tax Identification Number (TIN)

The National ID can also be used for the following purposes:

• employment purposes;
• registration and voting purposes;
• fulfilling financial and tax-related transactions;
• opening bank accounts and applying for loans;
• obtaining the cardholder’s criminal records and clearances;
• seeking admission to educational institutions and government hospitals;
• and applying for eligibility, services, and access to social welfare and benefits granted by the government

Simple: a simple one-time registration is required. The application is free, and ID validity has no expiration date. Meanwhile, registration is open to Filipino citizens of all ages living in the Philippines or abroad. As well as for those that hold multiple citizenships, and foreign nationals residing in the Philippines for more than six months.
