Mayon Evacuees in Albay to Receive P30-M Aid from PCSO

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), through its Charity Calamity Fund, will extend a helping hand to Mt. Mayon evacuees by giving P30-million in aid.

PCSO’s newly appointed chairman, Anselmo Simeon Patron Pinili, made the announcement today.

“This is in response to the request of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during his recent visit in Albay for the relief operations following Mt. Mayon’s eruption, in addition to the P5 million cash initially handed to the provincial government,” Pinili said.

Under the Republic Act (RA) No. 1169, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office is mandated “to provide and raise funds for health programs, medical assistance and services, and charities of national character.”

“We have a yearly calamity fund of P100 million approved by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) for natural and man-made disasters,” Pinili said.

Here’s the list of donations made by the agency last year:

  • P6 million to Biliran province for typhoon Urduja victims
  • P2.5 million to Davao City
  • P1 million to Davao del Norte
  • P500,000 to Tagum City
  • P200,000 to Davao Occidental
  • P600,000 to Davao Oriental
  • P600,000 to Compostela Valley for typhoon Vinta victims
  • P5 million to Marawi City victims.

Since the eruption of Mayon volcano began, people who live near the volcano were forced to move to relocation sites for their own safety. PCSO’s P30-M aid will go a long way in helping the evacuees.
