Curated by Patrick de Veyra, ON THE SELF is a group exhibition exploring contemporary self-portraiture and themes of identity and self-representation. Presented by Faculty Projects, an artist-run space, the exhibition highlights academic themes within the context of Philippine contemporary art.
Vulnerability and Introspection
The exhibit invites viewers into a raw exploration of vulnerability. Paintings transform crumpled paper into symbols of introspection, while textured drawings created with worn-out markers reveal emotional struggles and the complexities of the creative journey. Others bridge tradition and modernity, utilizing repetitive patterns inspired by mass production to reinterpret how culture shapes self-representation in today’s world.
