The National Museum of Natural History is open!

With the lockdown putting museum trips on hold, we are excited to share the reopening of The National Museum of Natural History this March 2021.

At this point, it’s probably clear why museums have closed their doors for a while. After a long break, the time has come for them to welcome visitors again! Fortunately, The National Museum of Natural History is joining this wave and is reopening come March 2, 2021. With that, we decided to let you know what to expect when going there. But most importantly, why it’s even worth going to.

The National Museum of Natural History is a relatively new museum. It first opened its doors in May of 2018. As we all know, the lockdown happened in March of 2020. So, it wasn’t really long until they had to close again. Luckily though, we can be sure that when they reopen this year, everything will still be new!

The History

Outside, The National Museum of Natural History has maintained the Neoclassical facade. The building was originally built for the Ministries of Agriculture and Commerce, making it one of our greatest architectural marvels. Considering the fact that the structure was built in the 1940s, it’s fascinating to see it still so sparkly clean today.

The Design

Inside, however, is where the real magic happens. Unlike older museums, The National Museum of Natural History is designed with a fresh light. That’s all thanks to the wonderful brains of architect Dominic Galicia. And of course, interior designer Tina Periquet. Following their refreshing yet very fitting concept of “The Tree of Life” they have designed the museum to be built around an atrium. The result? A well-lit courtyard with a mesmerizing six-story sculpture.

A Must-Visit in Manila

The National Museum of Natural History is right smack in the center of surrounding must-visits in Manila! It is specifically located in the Agrifina Circle in Rizal Park. For that reason, it could easily fit into an itinerary that includes Escolta, Binondo, and Quiapo.

This site is proof that there are still existing unexplored places to visit in the city, and will be on top of our list this month. See you there!
