Save the Farmers: ‘Session Groceries’ leads by example

Iloisa Romaraog was a former tech analyst for a global tech company. She launched ‘Session Groceries’ with her business partner, Cathy Suarez, back in 2017. And initially, it wasn’t as selfless as it turned out to be now.

Before, Session Groceries was an online app that only catered to people on a client-to-client basis. Meaning that if you didn’t pay, you didn’t get much of anything, really. But because of numerous disasters devastating the North, Iloisa and Cathy decided to turn Session Groceries into a selfless, self-sustaining machine.

They saw the opportunity to help, and so help they did.

A New Light for Agribusiness

After the produce oversupply of 2019, Iloisa and Cathy established Session Groceries as an online grocery app downloadable via Google Play and the App Store. It has become an app where consumers can buy affordable produce directly from farmers.

Very convenient, isn’t it?

We click, we pay, and then we wait for it to be delivered right to our doorsteps. It’s that simple, and is a concrete example of what we can do to help save our farmers.

In this way, we can finally disregard the traditional distributor and buy straight from the producers. And you can bet that all of the products coming from the app will be fresher than the ones you find in local groceries.

Leading by Example

Today, Session Groceries has over 2,000 partner farmers because of their exemplary business model where 30% of the profit goes directly to the farmers themselves. This is only the beginning of the pinnacle of Philippine food and agricultural job security.

Session is an example of an agribusiness making full use of the online platform where consumers and producers benefit from each other.

And the best part of all of this?

The farmers are finally earning the wages that they for so long deserved.
