PwC endorses tourism potential of GenSan

General Santos City received a major boost to its promising economy after a United Kingdom (UK)-based consulting firm cited the city as a viable tourism investment hub.

According to City Councilor Shandee Theresa Llido-Pestaño, chairperson of the city council’s tourism committee, London-based multinational professional services network PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) developed an investment guide promoting the resources and potentials of the city as an investment destination.

The 12-page guide entitled “Get into GenSan” shows comprehensive data for investors to carry out business and invest in the city. It was presented by PwC representatives during a business-to-business or B2B forum at the sidelines of the Region 12 or Soccsksargen trade and tourism expo in Makati City, which ran from May 4 to 6.

Pestaño said that the endorsement from PwC and the creation of the investment guide came as a surprise to her and the other city officials who were present at the forum.

“They endorsed the city as a potential investment hub, without our knowledge. They have crafted an investment guide, which for me is a very amazing development and contribution for the city, ” she said.

Meanwhile, Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 12 director Maria Rica Bueno said the development was due to a memorandum of understanding signed by the central office and PwC last March.

Bueno further explained that the agreement designated PwC as DOT’s “knowledge partner” for promoting tourism investments especially in Visayas and Mindanao.
