Mothers Know Best, Clinic Births Increase in Davao City

A higher number of women who have given birth at local health facilities in Davao City has been recorded as of the first half of 2018.

During her State of the City Address (SOCA) on Tuesday, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio shared that 95.4 percent of pregnant women chose to give birth at the city’s health facilities.

This number is definitely higher than the 89.44 percent recorded in 2016 and 92.46 percent in 2017.

Raising awareness on women’s reproductive health

Duterte-Carpio said this was due to the health officers’ efforts to educate women and raise their awareness on various birth control methods.

According to data, the prevalence rate among women using contraceptives went up to 61.3 percent this year from 50.7 percent in 2016.

Women who opted for ligation also increased to 226 this year from only 15 in 2016.

The city government’s Pagbabago program includes a women’s reproductive health track, which aims to educate women on the available birth control methods and their accessibility.

Moreover, it seeks to encourage families to plan before deciding to have a child in order to ensure they could afford and provide their children’s basic needs.
