The largest forest restoration project in Negros Oriental, 10 Million Trees in 10 Years for a Greener Negros Movement — or simply called 10M in 10 — has successfully planted over six million seedlings in only three years.

Celebrating its third year, the group shared on Wednesday that it is way ahead of its goal. Francis R. Dilig, management officer of 10M in 10, presented the monitoring and evaluation updates during a simple program at the ballroom of the Perpetual Help Community Cooperative, Inc. (PHCCI) in Dumaguete.

According to 10M in 10’s report, a total of 6,220,851 seedlings have so far been planted by the movement through its over 150 partners from Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental.

He also noted that this was achieved through 145 planting activities across the island ever since the movement began.

The 10M in 10 movement was developed by the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) along with partner government agencies and NGOs.

Vicente Omandam Jr., senior manager and head of EDC’s Reservoir and Project Management Division, said that 10M in 10 was “envisioned to be the first and biggest private sector-led forest restoration movement in one island, to be participated in by as many people and entities working together.”

The movement aims to bring in more partners to guarantee it’ll reach its 10-year goal.
