EU healthcare sector to visit PH, introduce innovation

The Philippines is expecting 50 companies from 15 European Union (EU) Member States to visit the country on September 2 to 4, 2018 for a business mission.

The Healthcare and Medical Technologies business mission is under the EU Business Avenues in Southeast Asia programme. It aims to showcase solutions such as Laboratory Equipment, Dental Products and Supplies, Medical Waste Management, Telemedicine, Remote Health Monitoring, Pan/Rehabilitation Equipment, Pharmaceutical Supplies and Disposables, Imaging and Non-imaging Diagnostic, Assistive Technologies, IT Solutions, and other technologies.

Europe’s growing senior population has been an important growth driver in the healthcare sector, resulting in proactive development by medical device companies to come up with solutions addressing demands by the aging population. Some of these solutions include home care devices and diagnostic equipment to detect diseases in early stages.

These technologies and developments can benefit Southeast Asia, which faces similar medical challenges because of its greying population. In the Philippines, specifically, the percentage of elderly above 65 years old is expected to grow to 4.9 percent by 2020 and 6.3 percent by 2030.

The EU Business Avenues programme is designed to help EU companies understand the healthcare and medical technologies market in the Philippines, as well as establish partnerships with Filipinos through a platform where they can benefit from business matching, coaching, and business support services.
