DPWH Completing Road Improvement Projects in Ilagan, Isabela

Planting, tending, and harvesting their crops are not the only responsibilities of farmers. They also have to find ways to deliver their products to the market, which is a challenge most of the time especially in remote areas like Ilagan, Isabela.

Fortunately, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is completing a 3.45-kilometer road project that will make the transport of agricultural products easier for farmers and other motorists in Ilagan, Isabela.

The concreting of the road from Barangay Lullutan, Ilagan to the municipality of Quirino is already in the works according to District Engineer Evelyn C. Costales of DPWH Isabela First District Engineering Office.

This farm-to-market road is included in the convergence program between two government agencies: the DPWH and the Department of Agriculture. Once completed, it will help eliminate the challenges in transportation, leading to an increase in agricultural productivity and reduction of income losses of farmers.

“The P28.1 million paving of Barangay Lullutan Road is for completion within this month of June as we are on the final phase of construction at 94.8 percent as of May 31,” said District Engineer Costales.

A P9.85-million road project has also been completed by DPWH in Barangay San Antonio, Ilagan, which is the paving of the 2-kilometer Barangay San Antonio road from Cabiceria 22 to Cabiceria 10.

Both projects started last February and were funded under the 2018 General Appropriation Act (GAA).

Farm-to-market roads are part of the government’s efforts to boost the road infrastructure quality in the country, allowing for lower transportation costs and better economic activities.
