Bored? Play these games from 2 Filipino game studios

Filipino game studios have been working hard to create great games. Why not kill boredom by checking out these six games developed by these two Filipino game developers, Taktyl Studios and Bacolod-based Tapatap Games?

  1. Crazy Crash City

Taktyl Studios’ first indie mobile title, “Crazy Crash City” is a top-down driving and action game, featuring “intense crashing action, high-speed police car chases, and a super adorable Corgi.”

Flip Velez, Taktyl Studios creative and business support executive, said that the game “revolves around Blitz the Corgi as he crashes his car around the city.”

Maneuver Bltiz’s car to crash into various things in the city – cause enough damage, and you get to move on to the next stage, ready to sow even more chaos.

Velez explains that they came up with the idea for Crazy Crash City back in early 2018.

“The concept of the game won the heart of our executives and was pushed into production,” said Velez.

Taktyl Studios will improve the game using player feedback, so expect additional cars and destructibles in the future.

  1. Over Easy: Egg Jump

Over Easy: Egg Jump is Taktyl Studios’ very first indie title and their first foray into Facebook Instant Games.

“The game features very simple gameplay that is hard to master,” said Velez.

“Tapping and holding charges Cregg the Egg and then releasing makes him jump. It’s always a rocky start but the more you play, the better you become.”

The game was developed to be a portfolio piece for potential clients, and to create a gallery of games that they can re-brand depending on their client’s needs.

  1. Rogue Reaver

Calling it their studio’s “passion project”, Rogue Reaver is slated for a 2019 release, and provides Taktyl Studios an avenue to “stretch its wings” by creating something “heavier” than its other mobile games.

“We wanted to create a mid-core experience that had more or less a niche,” said Velez.

“There was also a list of features that we wanted to implement that could only work in a stealth game. Seeing as the market was lacking some stealth games, we decided to attack there.”

  1. Hit the Can

Meanwhile, Taptap Games’ “Hit the Can” is a casual mobile game based on “Tumbang Preso”. Much like the beloved Filipino game, players are tasked with hitting cans with a slipper.

The gameplay, while simple, is challenging. Producer Kia Amazona explains that the player has a limited amount of chances, “so their timing and ‘flicking trajectory’ have to be just right.”

In the game, there are also “boss” stages where cans move faster. Completing stages awards players with diamonds, which can be used for in-game purchases like additional skins for the slippers.

  1. Haloes

Haloes challenges the player’s control, perception, and concentration, as it has its players survive a downpour of rings.

“The player earns points by making one or two orbs pass through the rings, and those points are converted into level experience,” explains Amazona.

  1. Pillars

Taptap Games’ first title has players aligning pillars with each other as a boulder rolls on top of them.

“[Pillars] is endless,” said Amazona. “There are no levels, but it will have challenging elements. Along the way, the player collects crystals, which they can use to unlock new themes in the Shop.”

Taptap Games hopes to explore other genres outside hyper-casual gaming in the future, such as action-adventure, RPGs, and open-world games.

Along with Taktyl Studios, Bacolod-based Tapatap Games look to be doing big things for Philippine gaming. Should we expect more good news from other Filipino game studios? Absolutely. The future looks bright for this young industry!
