Antipolo City organizes 1st Health Youth Summit

The city government of Antipolo successfully held the 1st Health Youth Summit 2018. The event aimed to recognize the importance of the youth’s role in shaping ideas and in helping address the problems their generation is facing.

The health summit received overwhelming support and participation of around 500 young Filipinos from 16 barangays, said Antipolo City Mayor Jun Ynares. The attendance marks that many of today’s youth are empowered and vigilant of the things happening around them.

Empowering the youth

With the theme “Kabataan Kabalikat sa Kalusugan,” the event was spearheaded by the city government through the City Health Office. Ynares said it was the first of its kind that was organized by the local government. It focused on the youth’s health and awareness on the negative effects of smoking, HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, use of illegal drugs, and the importance of mental health, specifically issues involving depression.

The summit’s main audience were those from Generation Z or those who are 12 to 22 years old and have been using the internet from a young age.

City Health Officer Dr. Concepcion Lat, Department of Health-CALABARZON Adolescent Coordinator Dr. Edna Defante, and Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Peter Papel Jr. were also present at the event. Each of them provided a message of support to the youth.
