4 LGUs Receive 900 E-trikes from DOE

The Department of Energy (DOE) is spearheading efforts in the transition to environment-friendly mass transport. The government agency is donating 900 electric tricycles (e-trikes) to four Metro Manila local government units (LGUs) and is planning to roll out more in the near future.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was already signed with regards to this between the DOE and the cities of Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Valenzuela, along with the municipality of Pateros.

“The DOE E-Trike is a project that encourages the transition from oil to cleaner sources of energy,” said DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi.

100 e-trikes will go to Las Piñas, 150 to Muntinlupa, 400 to Pateros, and 250 to Valenzuela. Each e-trike costs P450,000.

“The 900 units to be given to the four cities will benefit many communities, in terms of livelihood and the services that it can provide to the people,” Cusi added.

The LGUs are instructed to comply to the signed MOA by providing documentary requirements and other prerequisites such as their proposal for the utilization of the e-trikes.

In partnership with the Asian Development Bank, DOE’s donation of e-trikes is part of the joint program called the Market Transformation through Introduction of Energy Efficient Electric Vehicles (E-Trikes) Project. 3,000 e-trikes were completed and ready for deployment within the first six months of the year under the program.

200 e-trikes were also donated by the DOE to the Marawi City government in January, which is part of the national government’s efforts to rebuild the city.
