Travel expo places Philippines on the foreground of global tourism

Philippine Travel Expo (PHITEX), the largest government-hosted trade event in the country, was recently held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom. The occasion boosted the country’s travel and trade opportunities in the international market.

Department of Tourism (DoT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat expressed her confidence that prospective buyers will enjoy their stay in the country “especially when they get to experience Filipino hospitality.”

Romulo-Puyat led the officials in welcoming foreign delegates to the event. Among those who were present in PHITEX were Tourism Promotions Board officer-in-charge Arnold Gonzales, DoT spokesperson Benito Bengzon Jr., DoT assistant secretary Verna Buensuceso, DoT regional director for CAR Venus Tan, Department of Foreign Affairs assistant secretary Leo Herrera-Lim, Department of Transportation assistant secretary Mark Steven Pastor, and Pacific Asia Travel Association – Philippine chapter secretary general Dakila Gonzales.

A taste of “fun in the Philippines”

Foreign delegates also had a taste of the things that await them in the Philippines.

“Our valuable guests are in for a great experience to discover why it’s more fun in the Philippines and why they should include the country in their respective markets’ tour packages,” Gonzales said.

Approximately 200 international buyers from 30 countries and over 220 local sellers gathered at PHITEX.

International delegates had the pleasure to see cultural performances by the Sindaw Philippines Performing Arts Guild and Princess Rivera Virtudazo. Guests were also treated to a variety of sumptuous Filipino cuisine prepared by renowned chefs.

Moreover, foreign delegates participated in special tours in Tagaytay, Laguna, Bacolod, Bicol, Iloilo, Dumaguete, Siquijor, Ilocos, Palawan, and Davao.
