TESDA Provides Help to 8,882 OFWs and Their Dependents

Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who returned to the country are not only ones who got assistance from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in 2017.

According to TESDA Director General, Sec. Guiling “Gene” A. Mamondiong, up to 8,882 OFWs as well as their dependents were given assistance by TESDA in 2017 based on the accomplishment report submitted by the Partnership and Linkages Office (PLO).

“For 2017, a total of 8,882 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their dependents were provided assistance by TESDA,” the PLO Report stated.

1,749 were given scholarship assistance such as training for work scholarship (TWSP) that included 189 beneficiaries from the TESDA Emergency Skills Training Program (TESTP); 129 beneficiaries from special training for employment program (STEP), 102 beneficiaries from bottom-up budgeting (BuB), and 35 beneficiaries from private education financial assistance (PESFA).

The most number of graduates came from TWSP with 1,483 out of 1,749, which is 84 percent. STEP has 129 graduates followed by BuB with 102 graduates and PESFA with 35 graduates.

Services were also provided to 2,216 OFWs and their dependents. 1,373 were referred to TVIs for skills training, 622 were given information on services offered by TESDA, 175 were surveyed and profiled using training needs analysis; 18 were assessed and certified; 9 were referred to regional and provincial offices; and 8 dependents were referred to TVIs for training.

A total of 4,917 people were also given assistance through the One-Stop Service Center for Overseas Filipino Workers (OSSCO) under the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.

2,606 were provided training assistance and scholarship program, 971 went through the competency assessment, 89 on replacement and 51 on renewal of National Certificate (NC) and Certificate of Competency (COC), 73 were given the Certificate of Authentication and Verification (CAV), and 1,127 were given prompt assistance.

In support of the socio-economic agenda of the current administration, TESDA has a 17-Point Reform Agenda which includes the Reintegration Program for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).
