Sinulog 2018 attended by nearly 1.5 million

Viva Pit Señor! — A crowd of over 1.4 million filled the streets of Cebu City in this year’s Sinulog Grand Parade.

Police Regional Office-7 Director, Chief Supt. Robert Quenery, gave the figure for the crowd estimate at 3 in the afternoon.

Communication was once again a problem as the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) activated a city-wide signal shutdown between 8 in the morning to 8 in the evening. The signal was fully restored at 9pm.

Organizers and police officers had to use two-way hand-held radios communicate. Quenery maintained that the signal shutdown was necessary for security purposes.

The Sinulog 2018 Grand Parade began at 8 in the morning. with 30 contingents participating, including some from the towns of Pangalao of Panglao (Bohol), Buyugan of Abuyug (Leyte), Tribu Kalivungan of North Cotabato, and Katbalogan of Samar and Leyte.

Some showbiz personalities from Manila made appearances, including Maja Salvador and Bea Alonzo.

The celebration culminated in a musical presentation of “the old and future Cebu,” and a fireworks display.

No untoward incidents were reported.
