Senior High teacher wins int’l science award

A senior high school (SHS) teacher won an international science award at the International Conference on Science Education and Teacher Development in Bali, Indonesia.

Dr. Bryant Acar, Master Teacher II from the SHS department of Science and Technology Education Center in Baslak, Lapu-Lapu City placed second in the 2nd Ki Hajar Dewantara Award.

Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones congratulated Acar for his achievement in the competition, commending his contributions “in advancing the science education in the country through innovation and research.”

Promoting science education in the Philippines

Entitled “Creating Guided Meaningful Engagement in Learning Science Investigatory Project Making: Developing the Inner Scientists among the Students,” Acar’s winning research proposal seeks to promote science education program in the Philippines through teaching research and motivating young scientists to explore and make their own inventions.

Moreover, Acar emphasized in his project proposal that the stakeholders’ involvement in helping develop young scientists among learners is important.

“I will tap the industries and universities to be the venues where students can make lab testing and where we can also tap experts to share knowledge and skills,” Acar said.

Acar said he hopes that the award he received will inspire other science teachers to also reach for their goals and dreams.
