PLDT: Clark Will Be Home to Philippines’ First 5G City

Soon, the country’s first 5G cell site will be in Clark Freeport Zone according to PLDT Inc.

Together with telecom infrastructure giant Ericsson and the Clark Development Authority, PLDT’s mobile arm Smart Telecommunications has signed a memorandum of understanding for the venture.

“This will benefit not only Clark but the country as well by demonstrating that we are in step with the rest of the world in adopting advanced intelligent technologies,” said PLDT Inc. and Smart Telecommunications Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan.

PLDT aims to activate the 5G cell site in November. They are not only speeding up the LTE roll out in Clark, they are also equipping them with 5G.

“This, we believe, will not only be of benefit to Clark locators but also the many industries, various businesses and communities in the country as well,” according to CDC President and CEO Noel Manankil.

PLDT said that they are in the best position to deploy 5G in the country since they have a 221,000-kilometer fiber network.
