PH Consulate in Toronto leads launch of books by young Fil-Canadians

The Philippine Consulate in Toronto has given its all-out support to Filipino-Canadian writers by spearheading the launch of their books. The event was held at the Consulate’s cultural hub Sentro Rizal, and it served as a platform to introduce their works into the mainstream and literary scene in Canada.

Consul General Rosalita Prospero gave her praise to the works of the young Filipino-Canadian writers belonging to a group called Pluma Collective.

From fiction to non-fiction

The works featured at the event span a wide range of literary genres. From children’s books to non-fiction, there’s something for every kind of reader.

One of the featured books was Yves Lamson’s “Bodies of Water,” a literary fiction that follows the lives of four generations of women who can speak to water. The story is also set against the lush and vibrant backdrop of rural Philippine life.

Another story that was launched in the event was Nastasha Alli’s “The New Filipino Kitchen,” a collection of moving stories and incredible recipes written by Filipinos living and working abroad.

Many others were given the spotlight to share their works. The young Filipino-Canadian writers expressed their appreciation to the Consulate General and Sentro Rizal Toronto for arranging the event, which gave them an opportunity to make their works known to the Filipino-Canadian community and to a wider Canadian audience.
