NIA, MAC Builders sign P381.51-million contract for Sorsogon dam
Another project under the government’s Build Build Build program has been set in motion. The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and MAC Builders signed a P381.51-million agreement on the construction of the Ibingan Earthfill Dam and its appurtenant structures under the Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP).
Top management officials of NIA and executives of MAC Builders were present during the Contract Signing Ceremony on May 15, 2018.
Located in the municipality of Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon, Ibingan Earthfill Dam is expected to provide substantial and timely water supply for irrigation in support of the country’s agricultural development. The project will include excavation, embankment, concreting works, and steel bar reinforcement.
The infrastructure and development of various industries are being fast-tracked as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s 10-Point Socioeconomic Agenda, which aims to reduce poverty to 13-15% by 2022.
Moreover, the government’s infrastructure program is focused on redesigning the future of the country by strengthening investment climate, increasing income, and improving the productive capacity of the economy.
NIA is the lead government agency responsible for developing all possible sources of water specifically for irrigation. It is currently one of the country’s driving force towards economic growth, food sufficiency, and agricultural productivity.
