McDo Tiramisu McFlurry: Stirring Up Sweetness

McDonald’s is no stranger to pulling various gimmicks for the holiday season. Just this year, they implemented light-up shows in drive-thrus across selected branches. Similarly, they released yuletide versions of staple dishes, such as the Sweet BBQ Glazed Chicken McDo and, in this case, the McDo Tiramisu McFlurry.

Tiramisu, Tira moko!

McDonald’s was on the money when they tapped the Tiramisu as a flavor profile. This is because through the years, the treat has weaved itself into Pinoy pop culture through…wordplay?! Yes, wordplay.

This is all thanks to a commercial back in 2003 for M.Y. San Chocolate Grahams. In the ad, a Pinoy father and his daughter’s Japanese boyfriend vie for the last slice of homemade Tiramisu. The father keeps shouting, “Tira moko,” meaning that the boyfriend should save the last slice for him. However, said boyfriend mistakes this as the name of the dish and eats it!

Over 2 decades later, “Tiramisu, Tira moko!” still resonates with a lot of Pinoys because of its witty concept and delivery. But mind you, Tiramisu is an Italian dessert, not Japanese.

Now, where does McDo come in?

McDo’s Version

We channeled Ronald and the gang when we tried the McDo Tiramisu McFlurry. And while it came with no catchphrase, it came with a strong coffee aftertaste!

Think of a regular McFlurry—vanilla ice cream with cookie bits—swirled with what we believe is chocolate and coffee syrup. Even as we purchased it, we smelled its intense aroma, promising a richer taste once you eat it. And boy, did they deliver on that promise!

Upon the first taste, we were immediately hit with coffee, with a hint of ChocNut? We do not know if there were remnants of their past sundae there. But there was a nutty undertone to complete the experience.

We love the McFlurry as it is, so we are always curious as to how they step it up for special occasions. In the case of the McDo Tiramisu McFlurry, they took what made the dessert special and went nuts with it. No “Tira moko” here because you will finish it all!
