Manny Pacquiao Puts on a Boxing Clinic Against Adrien Broner

“I did this for the hood.”

Just a few minutes after receiving 112 of 568 punches thrown by Manny Pacquiao, Adrien Broner became the internet’s latest punching bag because of his interesting post-fight interview.

He claimed he won the fight, contrary to both the stats and eye test. Broner threw 295 punches in twelve rounds and landed only 50 of them for 17 percent. Nowhere near enough to convince a judge that he deserves a nod over Pacquiao.

The result: a unanimous decision for the Filipino boxing legend – scoring 117-111, 116-112, and 116-112 from the three judges.

Dominance from Start to Finish

Manny Pacquiao came out in the early rounds with guns blazing. He was clearly prepared to take the fight to Broner. The combination of jabs and body shots, however, were just too much for Broner to handle.

In the fourth round, Broner landed some good counter-punches. But even then, everyone in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada knew that Pacman was dominating the match.

The middle rounds were pretty much the same except Broner was punished more heavily. He was rocked by Pacquiao in multiple occasions and found himself pinned against the ropes while receiving a flurry of punches. Manny also landed a couple of big lefts, one to the body and another straight to the face.

The few final rounds were a cruise for Pacquiao. Broner wasn’t too keen on exchanging blows. He made use of the whole ring, backpedalling and dodging Manny until the end.

Post-Fight Entertainment

Most people who saw the fight would probably agree that the post-fight interview of Adrien Broner was much more interesting.

“I beat him,” he proclaimed.

“Everybody out there know I beat him. I controlled the fight. He was missing. I hit him more times. I beat him,” he added. But based on the disparity of punches landed (112-50), he clearly did not.

The amusing post-fight interview took an even more bizarre turn with Jim Gray’s next question: “You’re 3-3-1 in your last seven fights. What will you do next?”

In which Broner responded with: “I’m 3-3-1 in my last seven, but I’d be 7-0 against you.”

Alas, it really wasn’t Adrien Broner’s night. Jim Gray delivered another heavy blow to the boxer from Cincinnati by responding, “Well…that wouldn’t mean much.”
