Pacquiao to Fight Broner in Las Vegas, January 19

Manny Pacquiao’s next fight has been confirmed. The Filipino boxing champ will face Adrien Broner in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 19.

Pacquiao, who’s already 39 years old, will defend his WBA world welterweight crown against Broner at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. After not stepping inside the ring in the United States for two years, this fight will serve as Pacquiao’s “homecoming” in Las Vegas.

“I have missed fighting in Las Vegas. It has been a second home to me,” Pacquiao said.

“Returning to the MGM Grand Garden Arena to defend my world title against Adrien Broner is an exciting way to stage my homecoming.”

On a Mission

Pacquiao will turn 40 in December holding a record of 60 wins, seven losses, and two draws with 39 wins via knockout. Broner, on the other hand, is 29 years old with a record of 33 wins, three losses, one draw with 24 wins via knockout.

Broner is confident that he can beat Pacquiao. In fact, he even said that he plans to send the only fighter who won world titles in eight different weight divisions into permanent retirement.

“I have paid my dues in this sport, and now it’s time for me to get mines,” Broner said. “I get more views than everybody when I fight. A lot of people are going to see me pack off Pacquiao into retirement, and without his belt.”

Eyes on Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao admits that Adrien Broner is going to be a tricky opponent, but he already has his eyes set on a remath with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“This fight is going to be a good fight. I have to pass through him before fighting Floyd Mayweather. I want to prove to the boxing fans that Manny Pacquiao is still in the pack. You will see more fights with Manny Pacquiao here in the United States,” said Pacquiao.

Just last month, Pacquiao signed with Top Rank’s main rival, Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions group. This puts Pacquiao in a good position to fight the best in the welterweight division such as Thurman with a 28-0 record, World Boxing Council champion Shawn Porter with a 29-2 record, and International Boxing Federation champion Errol Spence Jr. with a 24-0 record – all fighters of Haymon.

Reunited with Freddie Roach

Manny Pacquiao also told reporters at the press conference in New York that legendary boxing coach Freddie Roach has returned to his training team. This time, however, Roach will take on a “supervisor” role.
