Despite the loosening of lockdown restrictions in the country, the threat of Covid-19 still looms heavily over our lives. However, the Philippines also needs to reopen its economy. And to do that, the government must implement slow yet calculated adaptation to the new normal.
In line with this, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has launched Safety Seals: a certification for business establishments that enforce strict compliance with the minimum public health standards (MPHS).
More than just a sticker
Public places that certify as “safe” according to DTI have Safety Seals plastered at their entrances, along with the QR code of the country’s national contact tracing program, StaySafe.ph.
All private business establishments, selected public places, and government offices are eligible for a Safety Seal. Obtaining this certification is free of charge for all establishments!

Ready to socially distance and practice health protocols while you shop? Great! Luckily, plenty of malls have already gotten certified with Safety Seals.
As of June this year, all Vista Malls and Starmall stores nationwide have already earned their Safety Seals. And last month, the Villar Group announced that nearly all of their mall employees have been fully vaccinated against COVID.
SM has also diligently strived for Safety Seal approval. Last June, 33 SM malls were awarded the certification. SM branches in Visayas and Mindanao, meanwhile, are also working on obtaining their own Safety Seals.
Megaworld, another nation leader in shopping malls, also now carries Safety Seals in their establishments. Branches in Metro Manila, Laguna, and Iloilo have successfully received certification.
Additionally, Megaworld even won seven commendations for their “Safer and Happier” campaign at the prestigious 2021 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards, an international business awards competition.
