Duterte sees Ifugao as major tourism destination, says Tolentino

The government considers Ifugao as a tourism gem, according to Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Francisco Tolentino. With the province’s natural wonders such as the internationally revered Banaue Rice Terraces, Ifugao is also likely to become an even bigger cultural destination soon.

In his speech on Monday, June 18 during Ifugao’s celebration of its 52nd Grand Gotad, Tolentino said that President Rodrigo Duterte commended the well-preserved attractions in the mountainous province, which remains a paradise for its residents as well as its local and foreign visitors.

He also said that the national government can see Ifugao rise further as a major tourist destination in the near future as the province prominently features the impressive cultural and artistic heritage of the Cordillera people.

Tolentino, who was attending the event on behalf of the president, lauded the province for successfully preserving its unique culture while building stronger communities and paying tribute to its resilient ancestors at the same time.

He said that such effort in culture preservation and the continuous practice of age-old customs have helped shape the country’s diverse tradition. Relaying the president’s message, Tolentino encouraged everyone to forge a stronger nation by promoting “vibrant traditions as an integral element in strengthening the Filipino identity.”
