Duterte gives go ahead for rehab of Bohol, El Nido
President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the rehabilitation of tourist spots in Bohol and El Nido. The move follows the six-month closure of the world-famous Boracay Island in Aklan.
The rehabilitation was recommended by the Department of Tourism (DOT). And together with the Departments of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Interior and Local Government (DILG), DOT will ensure the successful rehabilitation of Panglao Island and El Nido.
Inspection of Bohol and El Nido
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that she went to El Nido last November 28, along with DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu and DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, to inspect the island.
An inter-agency task force also conducted an inspection of both El Nido and Panglao beaches. The task force said there is no need to close the two renowned islands like Boracay since local officials have agreed to cooperate with the national government.
“We’d like to give credit to the mayor and El Nido officials because they took the initiative to make this initial rehab and cleaning operations,” Año said.
Bohol is one of the underated tourist spots in the Philippines. As a Korean who loves visiting the Philippines, Bohol os one of my favorite places to visit and spend a few days in.
Seeing the smallest monkey in the world and those lovely chocolate hills was the highlight of my Phiilppine vacation. I love Bohol and will be coming back again early next year.
