Davao Receives Numerous Awards for 2018

Proving its constant thrust for continuous development, Davao City has garnered a number of awards for 2018 in several fields. They include women and children, safety and security, economy, and environment.

Women and Children

Last March, Davao’s Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD) was awarded as the Gender and Development Local Hub 2018-2020 during the 2018 National Women’s Month celebration. This was for pushing the city’s gender-responsive local governance programs.

The city, led by then Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, and now currently led by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, has been constantly conceptualizing and implementing different programs related to women and children.

Meanwhile, Byaheng DO30 TV was awarded the famed Anak TV Seal Award, which is a testament to the approval of the public to their child-sensitivity.

The Office of the President in January also awarded the city as one of the child-friendly municipalities.

Safety and Security

In May 2018, Davao City was recognized as one of the Ten Most Peaceful and Safest Cities in Southeast Asia by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). This was due to the intensification of the city’s security efforts.

In addition, it was also awarded the Safe Haven Award by the Manila Times, as well as one of the Top Model Cities last June in Pasay City.

The city’s Central 911 received two awards: (1) a recognition for the invaluable contribution to the development of emergency medical services (EMS) in Asia, from the Asian Association for Emergency Medical Services (AAEMS) last June 18, and (2) a championship in the EMS competition last June 19.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) was declared as the Best City Police Office, due to its administrative and operational achievements, as well as the Best Mobile Force of the year 2017, for exemplary performance in upholding the Philippine National Police (PNP) missions, during the PNP service anniversary celebration at the Quezon City – National Headquarters last August 8.

Davao’s City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) also received P200,000 for being recognized as a Highly Urbanized City-Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Finalist last December 4.

Davao also received a plaque of recognition for the National Rabies Prevention and Control Program by the Bureau of Animal Industry last September 28, 2018.

Economy

Davao has also been booming on the economic front, as the cities and municipalities competitiveness index (CMCI) recognized the city as 4th Most Competitive, in terms of infrastructure and resilience.

The Department of Finance (DOF) gave a plaque of recognition to the City Treasurer’s Office, for its outstanding performance, as it exceeded the Economic Enterprise Target on Revenue Generation Program last May 23, 2018.

During the ATOP-DOT Pearl Awards in Cagayan de Oro City, Davao was awarded the 2nd best tourism event festival for Kadayawan Festival 2017 – a celebration that has constantly been bringing in tourists every September.

The Department of Tourism also included Davao in the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard Award in January.

Environment

Davao received a plaque of recognition from the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) for the successful implementation of its plans and programs for the overall improvement of environmental quality in Region XI, as well as its continuous efforts in Watershed Management last June 15.

The city was also awarded as the Cleanest & Greenest Model Barangay on Ecological Solid Waste Management by the DENR-Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) last June 25.
