Davao Airport: Major Upgrades Set for 2025

PH Government Plans Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Expansion of Davao International Airport to Boost Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth

The Philippine government, through the Department of Transportation (DOTr), will launch the bidding process for Davao International Airport in the first half of 2025. This project aims to improve regional connectivity and reduce congestion in Metro Manila.

To create clear guidelines for the airport’s rehabilitation, expansion, operation, and maintenance, the DOTr is partnering with the International Finance Corporation (IFC). This collaboration ensures compliance with international standards and helps attract global investors. The initiative is similar to ongoing efforts at Laguindingan and Bohol-Panglao airports. Additionally, the government plans to develop airports in Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, and Kalibo. Villar-led Prime Asset Ventures Inc. has proposed the P20.85-billion Iloilo project and the P10.24-billion Puerto Princesa contract.

Davao International Airport, a vital gateway to Mindanao, will undergo major upgrades to handle increasing passenger traffic and improve service quality. Planned improvements include enhanced terminal facilities, expanded runways, and advanced navigation systems. These upgrades will increase the airport’s capacity and efficiency.
