DAR-Caraga: deepen youth’s knowledge on agri importance

In Butuan City, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) of Caraga called on the youth to deepen their knowledge on family farming and agriculture.

They also called on for the importance of having a land wherein productivity of rice grains can be improved and ensure the food security in the market, because of its great help in sustaining a productive agricultural landscape in the country.

This was first emphasized by the agency during the 31st anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). The anniversary featured a photo gallery called, “Harvest and Blessing of Reformed Agrarian Reform” of its projects that aims to reach different sectors in the communities.

According to DAR-Caraga regional director Leomides Villareal, because of the constant exposure of the youth to new technologies, doing traditional things have become a rare occasion.

Villareal highlighted the need for the youth to learn more on the advantages and benefits from the agricultural sector, and what opportunities farm productivity can create for the Philippines.

“We want to inculcate in the minds of the youths that they still have to involve themselves in the traditional things even if we are now in the so-called millennial. The should not be too dependent on what the new technology could do for them,” said Villareal in a statement.

The department sector has initiated a study tour to their photo gallery in a number of schools in Butuan City, as well as from other provinces of the region. These galleries showcase the success stories of their agrarian reform beneficiaries.

“We hope to see next year that the young ones would be the ones holding and claiming for the CLOAs,” he said.

DAR, together with other government agencies, has been continuously reaching out and deliver the specific programs and services to the agricultural sector, supporting the president’s order.

The CARP was signed into law in June 1988 under former President Corazon Aquino’s Social Justice Program.
