Calamansi Juice Production Next Project for Basilan Farmers

They say that the juice is worth the squeeze. For calamansi farmers in one of the towns of Basilan province, that may very well hold true, as they venture into the production of calamansi juice.

Sec. Myra Mangkabung of the Department of Science and Technology in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DOST-ARMM) announced the construction of a calamansi processing plant in Barangay Tairan in the town of Lantawan.

Mangkabung also confirmed that the regional government allocated P3 million not just for constructing the plant, but also for purchasing the needed equipment and tools in producing the juice. She also mentioned that there are plans for expanding the existing four-hectare calamansi farm in the village of Tairan into six hectares, to sustain the demand for the new products.

Mangkabung is positive that the production of the juice will be another source of steady income for the farmers. She promised that their office will help the farmers in marketing their calamansi juice.
