BCDA: PHL Infrastructure Boom an Investment Magnet

President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure campaign is a foreign investors-magnet according to the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).

As one of the lead agencies tapped to deliver high-impact infrastructure projects, the BCDA together with Malaysia-based MTD Capital Berhad is now working in building the New Clark City (NCC).

In March 2018, the Philippines topped the list of best countries to invest in according to the US News and World Report.

BCDA said the ranking came in an opportune time because it complements the agency’s vision of making Clark the next premier investment center in Asia.

The administration’s promise of inclusive growth is now being seen in the projects lined up for Clark. The goal is to increase government spending on infrastructure and create more jobs and opportunities outside the capital region.

BCDA’s priority projects include the New Clark City, the expansion of both the Clark International Airport and Subic-Clark railway as well as the National Government Administrative Center (NGAC).

The 220-hectare NGAC, which already broke ground last January, will help in the development of back-up offices of various government agencies. This is to ensure continuous business operations in case of calamities and disasters.

Aside from offices, the construction of world-class sports facilities to be used for the Southeast Asian Games in November 2019 is included in phase 1A of the project.

Modeled after Malaysia’s Putrajaya and Sejong City in South Korea, the NGAC is designed to help ease the traffic gridlock and overpopulation in Metro Manila.
