50 Modern Jeepneys Approved to Ply Region 2

Starting next month, people from the Cagayan Valley Region will see modernized jeepneys plying their roads and highways.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), following the launch of modern jeepneys in other regions, has approved the franchise of at least 50 modernized jeepneys for Region 2.

This comes on the heels of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) approving the operations of these modern jeepneys in Metro Manila. Other regions such as the Cagayan Valley Region were urged to do the same as part of the agency’s modernization program according to LTFRB regional director Nasrudin Talipasan.

Three developmental or missionary routes in the region Didipio, Kasibu mining area to Santiago City, Didipio to Solano, and Santiago to Minuri, Jones, Isabela were chosen in particular for the operation of the modern jeepneys said Talipasan.

“We are continuously conducting information drives in the use of modernize jeepneys as these are environment-friendly compared to the old jeepneys used as public utility vehicles,” he said.

Talipasan added that the specifications under the PUV modernization program will be enforced on all jeepney operators in the region. He also mentioned that the government expects the DOTr’s PUV modernization program on jeepneys to be completed by 2020.
