47 Marawi schools ready for June classes

Learning continues in Marawi City, as 47 schools in the local community are ready to receive students for the start of classes in June 2018.

Department of Education (DepEd) Marawi City Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Anna Zenaida Unte Alonto made the announcement on the radio program of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM).

Alonto also reminded the parents to enroll their children to the schools where they were previously enrolled since the 47 schools in the unaffected areas of Marawi City are ready for the upcoming classes next month.

Handa na po ang mga paaralan. Handa na po ang mga guro. Ready na po ang Marawi City division (The facilities are ready. The teachers are ready. The Marawi City division is ready),” said Alonto.

Meanwhile, DepEd and other concerned agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are still holding talks regarding the 20 damaged schools in the most affected areas (MAA).

School-related issues including land ownership and compliance with DepEd requirements are still being resolved, according to Alonto. She said that that they are considering to establish two schools within the MAA, but noted there are no final plans yet.

The division of Marawi City still receives donations for the children’s education. Some of the assistance given were uniforms and leather shoes from the division of Makati City, 200 television screens from LG Electronics, and hygiene kits from South Korea.

Alonto gave assurance that they will do their best to address the needs of all their students.
