Travel is Therapy, According to Millennials and Gen Z
For young Filipinos today, travel is therapy. Because it’s not just about taking a break from work—it’s become an intentional act of self-care.
Healing Through Exploration
Whether it’s a quick getaway to Tagaytay, a solo adventure to Vietnam, or a relaxing stay in Bohol, many Filipinos are turning to travel as a way to manage stress. This growing trend is backed by the 2025 Travel Pulse survey by travel platform Klook, which found that 78.4% of Millennial and Gen Z respondents travel specifically to “mentally reset.”
“Work has been overwhelming lately. Booking that trip to Bohol really helped me breathe again,” shares Lara, a 25-year-old freelance writer.
The same Klook survey also revealed that 96.2% of travelers experience “travel blues” once their trip ends—showing the emotional impact of traveling. So to ease this, many start planning their next trip immediately!
Going Global
Filipino millennials and Gen Z find therapeutic travel in simple, stress-free destinations. Several examples include Taiwan’s night markets, Thailand’s beaches, and Vietnam’s cafés. It also helps that they’re visa-free and have many budget-friendly flights!
According to Klook, trips to Vietnam alone surged by 239% in 2024, highlighting the growing interest in exploring nearby countries.
Supporting Local
On the other hand, many choose to reset here in the Philippines! Top local picks like Tagaytay, Surigao, and Siargao are favorites for weekend breaks and wellness retreats.
Whether it’s soaking in hot springs, meditating by the beach, or simply unplugging from the noise, these getaways prove that travel is therapy—even in our own backyard!
