Philippine Water Sports You Should Try

Are you craving an adrenaline rush or perhaps seeking a new adventure? Let’s dive into some of the most thrilling Philippine water sports and the best places to try them.

Scuba Diving

Explore the vibrant underwater world of the Philippines through scuba diving. Situated in the Coral Triangle, you don’t have to travel very far to experience the thrill of diving into its rich marine biodiversity.

Popular spots: Tubbataha Reef Marine Park in the Sulu Sea, Apo Reef, WWII wrecks in Coron, the sardine run in Moalboal, and thresher sharks in Malapascua. Other beloved diving spots include Anilao in Batangas, Puerto Galera in Mindoro, and Anda in Bohol.

Freediving

Similar to scuba diving but without the gear and oxygen tank. You have to hold your breath as you swim underwater.

Manila residents would head to Mabini and Anilao, Batangas, for a quick freedive! Other popular freediving spots include Blue Hole on Tablas Island, Coron, and Apo Island.

Surfing

The waves here may not be as massive as in other countries, but the surfing spirit is naturally alive within our archipelagos. Making this the top favorite among Philippine water sports.

Popular spots: Siargao, La Union, Baler, Zambales, Gubat in Sorsogon, Real in Quezon, and Guiuan in Samar.

Skimboarding

When the shore break seems tough, this is your alternative to surfing. Glide through the shoreline and over the water into the ocean!

Popular spots: White Beach in Boracay and Dahican Beach in Davao Oriental.

Wakeboarding

As simple as strapping onto a wakeboard and letting a motorboat or cable system pull you across the water, this is considered an extreme sport.

Popular spots: CamSur Watersports Complex, Decawake Clark Cable Park, Lago de Oro Cable Ski Park, and Siargao Wakepark.

Kitesurfing

This is a lot more challenging than surfing and wakeboarding. You have to wrestle with the wind as you ride the waves.

Popular spots: Kingfisher Beach in Pagudpud and Bulabog Beach in Boracay.
