PawsMatch: Building a Community for Lost Pet Owners
Losing a pet can quickly turn into a frantic search through neighborhoods, social media posts, and group chats. But as more pet owners turn to technology to keep track of their furry friends, one PH-based platform is streamlining the process. This is PawsMatch!
How Does the App Work?
PawsMatch allows pet owners to create profiles for their pets before anything goes wrong. If a pet goes missing, the owner can post an alert through the platform.
The system then notifies nearby users about reported missing or found pets. According to veterinarian Roxanne Ignacio, who highlighted the platform in February, registered users can receive notifications when a missing or found pet is reported in their area. Conversely, when someone spots a missing pet and checks its information in the app, the pet’s details and location can be shared with the owner.
Instead of relying on one social media post that may or not reach people nearby, the app’s alert can be shared with those already using it.
Beyond a Pet Finder
Plus, PawsMatch was not built solely around pets.
The platform has since been developing features for pet profiles and adoptions, health records, and community interaction. Back in April, it reached more than 3,000 pet owners and 2,700 pet profiles, alongside thousands of posts with tens of thousands of views.
It is also working with local government units (LGUs), animal shelters, rescue groups, and veterinarians. An example of this is their partnership with the Animal Kingdom Foundation.
Another Piece of Digital Identification
PawsMatch highlights digital identification as part of responsible pet ownership. Besides a traditional collar tag, the platform pushes for digital pet IDs plus QR and NFC tags. However, this does not replace other forms of digital tracking, like AirTags and Bluetooth trackers.

PawsMatch is living proof of how pet technology is moving beyond just tracking. Because what started as pet profiles and missing-pet alerts has since expanded into health records, community features, and collaborations for a good cause.
