Hailing from the majestic mountains of Sagada, Mountain Province, First Lieutenant (1LT) Lei Vanette Alangui isn’t your typical pilot. This inspiring Igorot woman’s journey is a testament to the rich culture and unwavering spirit of her people. But her story transcends her heritage; it’s a tale of ambition, resilience, and a unique path to serving her country.

From Healing Touch to Takeoff

Alangui’s initial passion lay in caring for others. In 2014, she became a registered nurse, demonstrating her dedication to the medical field. However, her aspirations soared even higher. That same year, she competed in the prestigious Ms. Lang-ay Festival, showcasing beauty and intellectual prowess by winning a science research competition.

Breaking Barriers, Reaching New Heights

Determined to contribute to her nation’s defense, Lei Vanette Alangui set her sights on the esteemed Philippine Air Force (PAF). In 2017, she shattered glass ceilings by becoming the first Igorot woman to graduate from the grueling PAF Officer Candidate Course (PAF OCC). This achievement resonated deeply within the Igorot community, marking a significant milestone.

Earning Her Wings: A Dream Takes Flight

Alangui’s thirst for challenge propelled her further. She embarked on the demanding Philippine Air Force Military Pilot Training (PAF MPT) program, graduating as part of the “Wings of Resurgence” Class of 2019. Earning her wings signified personal triumph and the culmination of relentless dedication. Now, she stands among the elite, a Philippine Air Force Nurse Pilot entrusted with defending the Philippines from the skies.

She is one of the designated attack pilots of the A-29B Super Tucano light attack aircraft of the Philippine Air Force.
