Government Approves Makati-BGC Skytrain Proposal

LIFE WILL soon become easier for commuters traversing Makati and Bonifacio Global City. Infracorp Development Inc. has secured original proponent status (OPS) from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) two-kilometer Skytrain monorail project that will connect Fort Bonifacio in Taguig to Makati.

“We laud the government’s quick action to the proposal. This is another clear indication of the government’s serious commitment and focus on infrastructure developments,” said Kevin Tan, Infracorp president.

Once installed, the P3-billion Skytrain monorail project will reduce travel time from uptown Bonifacio to MRT Guadalupe to only five minutes. It will use automated cable-propelled monorail technology and can be interconnected with other transport hubs operating within the area near the monorail. Around 60,000 to 100,000 commuters every day are projected to benefit from the project.

“There is really an urgent need to connect the two major business districts of Makati and Taguig, and this project will make that into a reality,” said Tan.

The unsolicited proposal was submitted to the DOTr in October last year. With the agency’s endorsement, it will go through a review by the National Economic and Development Authority’s Investment Coordination Committee.

The Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI) made its entry into infrastructure projects last year with the creation of Infracorp. It’s also part of the “super consortium” that submitted a proposal to rehabilitate and expand the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Infracorp is also looking into other potential government private-public partnership infrastructure projects in several business districts around Metro Manila and in key growth areas around the country. Infracorp Development Inc. is the infrastructure company of tycoon Andrew Tan’s Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI).
