Globe to deploy 120 cell sites along major roads in Metro Manila

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Globe Telecom, Inc. signed an agreement cutting the process for securing permits in building telco infrastructure. This enables the telco company to speed up its roll out of over 120 cell sites in Metro Manila.

Over the weekend, Globe said in a statement that the deal allows its deployment of small cell antennas along EDSA, C5, Roxas Boulevard, and Congressional Avenue among other locations.

Globe, an Ayala-led telecommunications giant explains that around 25 permits from local government units are required to set up a radio tower. And the process usually takes about eight months.

However, thanks to the MMDA deal, the small cell antennas can now be deployed faster which will help improve wireless network coverage in major thoroughfares controlled by MMDA.

A connected Metro Manila

Globe President and Chief Executive Officer Ernest L. Cu expressed his gratitude to the MMDA for agreeing to the deployment of the cell sites.

“Securing various permits for the construction of telco infrastructure such as cell sites has long been a major challenge of the industry. And we want to thank the MMDA for sharing our vision of a connected Philippines by allowing us to deploy sites faster,” Cu said in the statement.

Meanwhile, MMDA Chairman Danilo D. Lim acknowledged that Globe has been a long time partner of the agency with regards to public service.

Furthermore, the agreement is also in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s policy of easing the process of doing business in the country.
