Filipino Judokas Get Support from Phoenix CEO and Pres Adviser

Phoenix Petroleum will help Philippine Judo rise from the ashes.

According to Philippine Judo Federation president Dave Carter, Phoenix President and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Uy, who also happens to be the Presidential Adviser for Sports, has agreed to become the Chairman of the Federation. He will be in charge of providing support to the four national athletes who are now training in Japan.

The four athletes are Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Kiyomi Watanabe and Mariya Takahashi, Sugen Nakano, and Kessei Nakano. The support will be provided through the Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Sports Foundation.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman William Ramirez had proposed to get Uy on board even before the foundation was officially launched according to Carter.

“We are very thankful with the kind of support that we are getting. It’s overwhelming,” said Carter during the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Olympic Committee Media Group sports chat.

29 athletes including the four judokas were identified by Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Foundation, which is going to be financed through the help of private funds. The goal is to produce the country’s first gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
