Fil-Am is delivery boy by day, pro wrestler by night

John Redito is living a double life. A master’s degree student in physical therapy and delivery boy by day; “The Philippine Dream” by night.

Also dubbed as “Johnny Dynamo,” Redito is a Fil-Am pro wrestler who usually competes at the Bay Area All Pro Wrestling. Once the bell rings, he turns into a different person.

His signature entrance anthem is the song “Careless Whisper” by George Michael. He struts to the ring wearing a robe and toting a goblet of wine.

“It’s go time. I’m all business. I use the skills that I’ve learned over the last five to six years and doing the damndest performance that I can,” he said.

Before a geek, now a pro

Redito, now 30 years old, has been wrestling for six years. Before he got the chance to live out his dream, he was geeking out on pro wrestlers.

“Everyone was popular. Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Mankind, Kane, you name it. Every wrestler [had] bigger than life personalities. And I said I want to do that when I’m a whole lot older. I was 10 years old, and about 14 years later I’ve been blessed to even find a ring to train in, to receive my tutelage,” Redito said.

Living the Dream

According to Redito, you have to be different from everyone else to be successful in wrestling. That’s why he took the nickname “The Philippine Dream,” which he earned when he was playing football in high school.

Don’t be fooled by the antics of “Johnny Dynamo” because wrestling is no joke. It takes more than just showmanship. Redito regularly receives bumps and bruises from his wrestling matches.

Pinoys have Batista and Mega TJ Perkins to cheer for in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In the All Pro Wrestling, however, “The Filipino Dream” has been the source of Pinoy pride – together with fellow Filipinos Shotzi Blackheart and Matt Carlos.

Win or lose, Redito remains a champion because he refused to give up on making his dream a reality.
