DTI to Hold Food Safety Orientation: Nov 27, General Trias City

Whether you’re planning to invest in the food industry or already an entrepreneur in the sector, you are welcome to take part in a free orientation on food safety hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in General Trias, Cavite.

The seminar will be held this November 27, 2018 at the General Services Office (GSO), which is at the second floor of the city government center.

The “Food Safety and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)” orientation is a project of the DTI together with City Mayor Antonio A. Ferrer, 6th District Congressman Luis Ferrer IV, Vice Mayor Morit Sison, and the Sangguniang Panglungsod.

What to Expect from the HACCP Orientation

According to DTI’s Negosyo Center Business Counselor Liza Burgos, the orientation aims to raise safety awareness among current and prospective food entrepreneurs for the sake of their customers.

She added that this initiative will also help prepare business owners for expansion and growth through exportation since the HACCP certification/seal is part of various exportation requirements.

Burgos also explained that HACCP is a science-based management system that emphasizes food safety starting from the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production up to the procurement and handling, manufacturing, distribution, and consumption of the finished product.

The whole-day seminar will revolve around two topics: Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures and hazard analysis and critical control points. The former will be tackled in the morning session while the latter will be discussed in the afternoon session.
